About Us

The history of our company dates back to 1965. Lyndon B. Johnson was in the White House; the U.S. was racing to space and our company founder, Steve Marstad, began his elevator career.

One of his first installations brought him to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, where he worked to install the elevator on the 300 ft. tall Space Tower. Thru the years, Steve excelled in his career and quickly earned a highly respected reputation in the industry. He was an advisor to various code committees and helped found the Minnesota Elevator Association. Steve's passion for creative designs and can-do attitude was critical to his success. Still true today, the team at Access Lifts is well-known in the industry for finding creative solutions when others said it could not be done.

After many successful years in the business of elevators, Steve sold his commercial elevator company to the world's second-largest elevator company at the time, Montgomery Kone. He also had a new idea. He recognized the growing need for smaller accessibility elevators and lifts in the market. In 1989 Access Lifts was founded. Today Access Lifts is a family operated by Steve and two of his daughters and an incredible team of elevator mechanics, all licensed and factory trained. The passion for creative thinking and a can-do attitude passed down through the generations is still found here at Access Lifts.
